We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Librarian to join our school. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of library science and technology, along with practical experience in setting up, executing and managing library activities.
Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Design and organize the physical layout of the library to maximize space utilization.
- Establish cataloging systems using modern library software to ensure easy accessibility and retrieval of materials.
- Implement classification schemes, such as Dewey Decimal Classification or Library of Congress Classification.
- Manage the daily operations of the library, including circulation, shelving, and maintaining library materials.
- Oversee the acquisition and processing of new books, periodicals, multimedia resources and electronic materials.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and manage weeding processes to ensure an up-to-date and relevant collection.
- Utilize integrated library systems (ILS) for cataloging, circulation and inventory management.
- Provide guidance on the use of online databases, e-books and other digital resources.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies in library science and implement relevant tools to enhance library services.
- Assist students and staff in locating and using library resources effectively.
- Develop and conduct training sessions for students and staff on information literacy and the use of library technologies.
- Foster a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages reading and research.
- Develop and enforce library policies and procedures in accordance with CBSE guidelines and school regulations.
- Ensure compliance with copyright laws and ethical standards in the use of library materials.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to integrate library services into the school’s curriculum.
- Organize and promote library events, reading programs and book clubs to engage the school community.
- Build partnerships with local libraries and educational institutions to enhance resource sharing and professional development.
Preferred Qualification:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science or a related field from a recognized institution.
Preferred Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in library management, preferably in a school or educational institution.
- Proven experience in setting up and managing library systems and services.
- Proficiency in using library management software (e.g., Koha, Follett Destiny or similar).
- Strong knowledge of cataloging standards (MARC, RDA) and classification systems.
- Familiarity with digital library resources, databases and e-book platforms.
- Competence in using office productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
